“Why?” is a question posed often to members of the DR Mission Team. Why travel so far to help the poor? Why is there so much poverty and need there? Why can’t you just send money?

Most often, there are not simple answers to these questions. But the best answer of “why” is to look into the eyes of the children in the Haitian sugarcane villages (bateyes) caught in the vicious cycle of poverty and injustice. The reason why so many go to such lengths to help the “least of these” is found in the eyes of every precious child like these little ones from Batey 50 pictured here. For in their eyes there is hope that help is here, the future is brighter, opportunities are available, and faith is real. #DRMT14
